Cleaning

Proper care to ensure long life

SISAL

Suggestions for care:

  • regular (daily) cleaning with a powerful vacuum cleaner (with or without brush attachment)

Stain removal:

  • the fresher the stain, the easier it is to remove
  • soak up the worst of the dirt with an absorbent white or undyed cloth
  • remove solid particles using the back edge of a knife or a spoon
  • spray special carpet shampoo e.g. Tapigold onto the bristles of a natural fibre brush or cloth, carefully remove the stain from the carpet by rubbing gently
  • important: do not moisten the stain, as sisal tends to shrink when wet and water stains could result

Thorough cleaning:

  • thorough cleaning to remove greasy or oily residue is necessary form time to time

Basic Cleaning:

  • Depending on the degree of soiling a basic amount cleaning is needed after certain intervals, which also helps remove the dirt that contains grease. The basic cleaning should be made with a dry shampoo.
After cleaning ensures that the carpet is hovered thoroughly, so that the foam and the dirt contained in it are removed completely. A spraying extraction should not be made, as the cleaning liquid cannot be removed sufficiently owing to the coarse structure of the carpet, and any soaking could lead to the shrinking of the SISAL carpet and to having it warp.

Beware:

  • SISAL is a pure natural fibre and may shrink when soaked. Any complaints based on this will not be recognized by the manufacturer, as the cause for this is outside of its influence.

SYNHTETIC

Suggestions for care:

  • regular, preferably daily, vacuuming

Stain removal:

  • the fresher the stain, the easier it is to remove
  • stains can usually be removed easily using a damp cloth or sponge
  • Synthetic is not sensitive to water and can be wiped using a damp cloth containing a thin detergent solution
  • wait until the carpet is completely dry again before walking on it in outdoor shoes

Thorough cleaning:

  • if a large area is stained, we recommend thorough cleaning by spray extraction

Extraction method:

  • With this method the carpet pile can be injected with a hot water and detergent solution under pressure so that soil is suspended in the water which is extracted almost at once by a high suction, wet vacuum system.
This method is particularly useful for very dirty carpets as it removes deep-seated dirt, but it may not clean the surface as well as other methods. It is also useful for removing excess detergents form successive wet shampooing’s – and together the two methods can restore a very dirty, flattened carpet. Although a machine can be rented, it is best to have this type of cleaning done by a professional cleaner because care needs to be taken not to over-wet the carpet and thus distort the pile and backing.
If you do use a rented machine, it is important to follow directions and not exceed the concentrations of additives or the water temperature recommended by the chemical/detergent manufacturer.

Wool

Suggestions for care:

  • textile dirt-trap mats to protect against dirt from outside and polish etc. from hard floor coverings in neighbouring rooms
  • regular vacuuming, using a flat nozzle
  • correct ambient temperature and humidity as a precaution

Stain removal:

  • the fresher the stain, the easier it is to remove
  • use proprietary stain removers that are suitable for wool
  • or warm, biologically active detergent solutions
  • Using a white cloth, dab off stains from the edge to the middle. Do not rub!

Thorough cleaning:

  • if soiling is more than superficial, carpets should be cleaned by a specialist, using the extraction and shampooing method
